Welcome Candidates and Parents of Confirmation 2019-2020

By now you should have received an email indicating how the Sacrament of Confirmation at our parish will proceed for the batch of 2020. If your child has completed the requirements and you have not received an email, please contact the Confirmation Team at 905-821-1331 ext. 230 or send an email to confirmation@sjocross.org.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we have to abandon the previous tentative dates and we have to reshuffle the groups as well. Also, in order to accomplish the church seating limit, only the candidate, sponsor and the parents will be attending the Confirmation Mass at the church. The mass will be streamed live, so that other family members will be able to participate at home. We will email you the link closer to the date.

Bishop Boissonneau will celebrate the Confirmation masses. He has provided us with the following dates. You will receive an email with your child’s new confirmation date.

The New Confirmation dates are:

  • Monday, October 26, 2020, 7:00 pm

  • Tuesday, October 27, 2020, 7:00 pm

  • Wednesday, October 28, 2020, 7:00 pm

  • Thursday, October 29, 2020, 7:00 pm

  • Friday, October 30, 2020, 7:00 pm

Please note that the rehearsal dates have been cancelled. Please watch the video clip highlighting what is expected of the candidate and sponsor for the rite of Confirmation via this YouTube link.

Confessions are available on every Saturday after the morning mass from 9:30 am to 10:30 am.

We ask that you keep these points in mind:

  • All Confirmation masses will be held at St. John of the Cross Church.

  • Everyone is required to wear a mask and practice social distancing.

On Confirmation Day

  1. Please arrive at the church 20-30 minutes before the start of mass on your assigned date, so that you can find parking. Do not park in the fire lane and watch the "no parking" signs if you park on the road. The City of Mississauga may fine you if you park illegally.  Don’t let a ticket spoil your day!!!

  2. Look for the table assigned to the first letter of your family name. Upon hand sanitizing and checking in, the candidate will receive a name tag and Confirmation certificate. Volunteers will be there to guide and assist.

  3.  Ushers will guide the candidate, parents and sponsor to their seats. Sponsor will be seated two meters from the candidate if they are not from the same household.  Ushers will also guide them both to the bishop to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation. The sponsor will stand behind the candidate but will not be touching the candidate.

  4. Each candidate will be anointed with the Oil of Chrism by the Bishop, marking a sign of the cross on the candidate's forehead using individual cotton balls.

  5. Guidance on how to approach for the rite of Confirmation and for communion will be provided in the above-mentioned video.

  6. In order to maintain a prayerful atmosphere and out of consideration for others, no photos or videos may be taken during mass. There may be opportunities to take pictures before or after Mass maintaining proper social distancing.

If your child is not comfortable to be confirmed this year, you may postpone it to another year. Kindly let us know of your decision as early as you can.
